The Mustard Seeds (Drama Team)

The Drama team (students in grades 5-8) meets twice a month on Sunday evenings learning acting games, writing some of own materials and rehearsing our performances. Our goal is to perform once a month during the worship hour. Skits performed have included The Parable of the Rich Fool, The Parable of the Unfaithful Servant, The Rich Man and Lazarus, The Ugly Turkey and Amazing Grace to name a few. We try to add an element of humor to all our productions.

The Christmas Pageant

The Christmas Pageant is sponsored by the Education Committee and supported by many of the members of the Mustard Seeds. However, children ages 2- and up are invited to participate in this annual event. Our pageants are original scripts encompassing the pageantry of the Christmas story. We begin preparation for the pageant in November; have three rehearsals on Sundays after worship, culminating with a performance in church during the Advent Season. Students are invited to prepare musical selections to enhance the script. Every year, the highlight of the pageant is our herd of sheep. They are very cute!

Spring Musical

For 4+ years, we have performed a Spring Musical usually in the month of March. Selections have included: Peace in the Kingdom, The Castaways, Methuselah’s Fantastic Tour (an original musical), and the Wizard of Oz. We begin rehearsal in January, usually with an exciting Lock-in. We have been invited to bring our musicals or selections from our performances to different churches as well to Annual Conference at Lakeside ! It is an exciting time for all! We learn Christian values, morals and habits through the wonderful God-given gift of acting!

In general, we have 14 members of the Mustard Seeds. Currently our cast includes students from Bay Village and Avon Lake . All youth programs at BUMC are open to members and friends alike!

“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree…” Matthew 13:31-32
