Confirmation classes begin in the 7th grade and culminate at the end of the 8th grade year. The first year of study concentrates on the deeper meanings of the Bible stories learned in childhood. The students work on a Ten Commandment project, read scripture, act out the stories, play games and complete workbooks.
They develop a plan for raising funds, implement that plan and decide which animals to purchase with their monies. The 7th grade class outreach project is the Heifer Project.
Year two concentrates on the Methodist disciplines and practices. 8th grade students study the Bible, play games and complete notebooks.
The students choose a mentor with whom they work all year. Luncheons together as well as mentor/mentee opportunities are planned. Building a strong Christian relationship with another adult is very important to the growth of both the young mentee and the older mentor. It’s wonderful to see the two groups working and talking together.
The students visit different churches throughout the year which encourages them to really consider their decision to become members of the Methodist Church and Bay United Methodist Church in particular.
The 8th grade class outreach project is the Fall Festival. They plan, set-up and lead the games that the younger children play. A food donation is requested from the younger children; which is then donated to a food pantry.
I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
