Youth Leadership & Scholarship

Youth Council

Being a member of Youth Council is the primary step in serving as a leader of youth ministry at Bay UMC. Our Youth Council is made up of 8-10 students and 3-5 adults. We meet the 4th Sunday of every month after the Sunday Family Worship Service. During these meetings we discuss youth programming at Bay UMC and help form young people into leaders. A commitment to Youth Council includes attending monthly meetings, planning and facilitating Youth fellowship & worship activities, advertising & gathering friends, and attending at least 1 leadership event.

Our next Youth Council meeting will be held March 25th, 11:15-12:30 in the Youth Room.

Adult & Student Leaders are typically requested in July and meetings start in August. The length of service is one year. All students in grades 9-12 are eligible to serve. Our 2010 Youth Council Members included Shannon O'Brien, Jaime Kerka, Henri Adams, Jacob MacMillan, Chris Gulley, Hannah Kertes, Sue O'Brien, Dave Jacobs, and Sue Gulley.

In addition, members of our Youth Council are invited to attend the North Coast District UMC Leadership Academy in February and the Youth Annual Conference at Lakeside during the summer.

Scholarship

Each year a few of our graduating High School Seniors receive scholarships to attend college. The Scholarships are awarded each June to those students who are members of Bay United Methodist Church (through Confirmation, transfer, or joining the church), and have demonstrated a commitment to Christ. The scholarships offered include the Dorothy Smith Memorial Scholarship (usually $1,000) and the Bay UMC Scholarship (usually $500).

To apply for a scholarship complete the application below and submit by March 16th of your graduating year.
