Confirmation

If you are in the 8th grade and are interested in becoming an official member of the United Methodist Church you need to start the Confirmation journey. Confirmation is a process that begins in October and ends in May, 2012. We are delighted that you want to explore your faith and consider taking your baptismal vows for yourself. Here are the parts of the journey:

	Fall Orientation Dinner	Eighth grade families gather to learn about the Confirmation journey.
	Mentoring Program	This is a series of partnered and group sessions guided by the book "Making Disciples" and complimented by reading the book of Luke. These sessions are scheduled from Feb thru May.
	Sunday School & Worship	Sunday School meets Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Part of the Confirmation journey is discovering the value of learning with the church community, as well as worshiping together. It is expected that you will attend at least 75% of Sunday School meetings and take part in Sunday worship.
	Retreats	At least two retreats will be planned and hosted at the Nehemiah Mission in Cleveland. There are spiritual formation, group bonding, and service components to each of these trips. You must attend at least one and complete a service portion of 5 to 10 hours in the midst of your confirmation journey.
	Pastor Interview	Near the end of this journey you will meet one-on-one with Rev. Bill to share your experience, talk about actual confirmation, and to express what gifts you have to offer to our faith community.
	Confirmation Sunday	Confirmation will take place in May. It is a celebratory service for you and with you. Once you are Confirmed, we hope that you will find ways to be active both in worship and learning, as well as in service.

	Oct 31-Nov 9, 2011	Choosing a Mentor Window - Mentor Selections DUE Nov. 9th
	Nov 6, 2011	Church Visit to Journey Church in Olmsted Falls - Depart at 8:30 and return by 11:00 a.m. Permission Slips and Drivers Needed.
	Nov 12, 2011 SATURDAY	Mentor Breakfast & Fall Retreat (9 a.m. to 7 p.m.) We will meet for breakfast with our Mentors and Parents at 9:00 a.m. Our Fall Retreat will follow with scheduled activities that include a picnic lunch, community service work, and Nature Center fun! Permission Slips are needed.
	Nov 27, 2011	Mentoring Begins this week - 11 sessions to be completed in 17 weeks Mentors and Confirmands can meet any time except Sundays from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m.
	Dec. 11, 2011	Mentor-Confirmand Breakfast at 9:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall This is an optional meeting for confirmands & mentors to attend. Session #2: "God" will be facilitated during this time. Please RSVP to help us prepare for breakfast.
	Dec 18, 2011 - Jan 1, 2012	Mentor Break
	Jan 11, 2012	Group Session: Worship - Begins at 7:00 p.m. Confirmands, parents and mentors welcome
	March 7, 2012	Group Session: Death & Resurrection- Begins at 7:00 p.m. Confirmands, parents and mentors welcome
	April 1, 2012	Last week of Mentoring (11 sessions to be completed in 17 weeks)
	March 31-April 1, 2012	Spring Retreat: United Methodism Today and Service - Begins at 8:00 a.m. Church Visit: Aldersgate UMC
	April 22, 2012	Church Visit: St. Barnabas Confirmands and mentors welcome
	May 6, 2012	Group Session: The Faith Journey Continues - Begins at 11:00 a.m. Talk with Rev. Bill -- Lunch provided --Confirmands and mentors welcome
	May 20, 2012	Confirmation Sunday
